Modul Mechanisms of Disease and Physiological Responses ini merupakan modul kedua pada blok Basics Biology of Cells (BBC) yang akan dipelajari mahasiswa FK USU pada semester I. Modul ini akan dilaksanakan selama 5 (lima) minggu. Modul ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pengetahuan dasar mengenai agent penyebab penyakit dan mekanisme kekebalan tubuh pada tingkat seluler dan molekuler kepada mahasiswa sebagai bekal pengetahuan memahami mekanisme penyakit di tingkat organ. Dengan demikian kelak ketika mahasiswa telah menjadi praktisi medis, ia dapat melakukan diagnosis serta penanganan yang tepat, bahkan mungkin dapat mengembangkan diri untuk melakukan penelitian di bidang infeksi dan imunologi.
